All food has a story and it is usually the story of the land from which it comes and the way that it is cared for. This is a story in which you can be a partner. The story begins some 800 years ago when terraces were built and olive trees planted at Pedruxella Gran in northern Mallorca. This historic “finca” is high up on the south-facing slopes of a mountain range and in an area so special it is now designated as a UN World Heritage Site. The story is also about a way of making oil that is rapidly disappearing as a commercial enterprise. Around us, the ancient trees are either abandoned or are pulled out to make way for younger, more productive trees that can be mechanically harvested. See our blog on today’s olive oil production:
Pressing Olives at Pedruxella Gran
What’s in good olive oil?
The olives from our trees are collected by hand using nets and sticks, much as they have been for generations. These trees produce less fruit than a modern, often irrigated, orchards, but the concentration of oil within the olive makes it well worth the effort to keep the traditional production alive. While we maintain an historic press on the property, we are first in line on Monday mornings to press our olives at a nearby, modern centrifugal press. We collect our olives with friends and volunteers, but we press it professionally for your pleasure and safety. It’s part of the love in the oil.
We would like to invite you to share in this story and in our love for these trees and the special oil we produce. By adopting one of our trees, you will help maintain the trees and keep this old way of producing oil alive. In exchange, you will be rewarded with a certificate of adoption with a description and photo of your tree, a map of its location, and two bottles (50 cl) of our premium, extra virgin, organic oil sent to your home. We’re calling this adoption program “Olive Love”.
We also want to share our beautiful farm with as many as we can, so to encourage people to visit us on Mallorca, and to experience the tranquility of the farm and the majesty of these trees, we are offering the first 100 to sign up, a discount of 10% on a weekly rental of the main house or one of our other houses during olive picking season and through to summer.
These certificates and the story that goes with it will make a truly unique gift to the oil aficionado, the foodie, or anyone who cares about quality, integrity and conservation of the land and heritage of an ancient olive grove in Mallorca.
Please email us at and we will register you for “Olive Love”. When the website goes live, we will let you know and give you the chance to join. Thank you for your interest in our olive trees and delicious oil!
